PANAJI: PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar has said that his department has decided to conduct state tap water testing to find any micro-plastic presence as reported in the study, which was released days before.
“I have ordered to conduct testing of state tap water to find out any presence of micro-plastic. Samples will be taken and sent for testing either to Pune or Bengaluru,” said Pauskar.
He further said that such a type of water testing facility was not available in the state, which was why he sent the samples out of state.
“PWD has taken this issue very seriously, and that is why I have ordered the inquiry,” he added.
Minister also said that the WHO report in 2019 has indicated that the microplastics are ubiquitous in the environment and detected in all types of water, from marine to bottled water. The same is found in tap waters across the world.
Public Works Department(PWD) has issued a clarification that the drinking water is safe and fit for human consumption. The clarification comes from the backdrop of the report regarding microplastics in tap waters in Goa released by Toxic Links with NIO Scientist Dr Mahua Saha as the principal investigator.
