QUELEOSSIM: The Queleossim Village Panchayat has decided to challenge the proposed floating recreational platform and resort project, with Cortalim MLA Anton Vas declaring that the development “will not be allowed under any circumstances.”
The decision was taken during an Extraordinary Gram Sabha convened on Sunday to discuss the provisional No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued for M/s Movaj Enterprises’ proposal to establish a floating recreational platform, park and resort on Survey No. 170/0 in Queleossim village.
The meeting, attended by MLA Anton Vas, Panchayat members, local residents and the parish priest of Queleossim Church, witnessed strong opposition to the project. Villagers raised concerns over its potential environmental and ecological impact and urged the Panchayat to take all legal steps to prevent its implementation.
After detailed deliberations, the Gram Sabha resolved to challenge the provisional NOC by filing an appeal before the appropriate authority. Members also decided that, if required, the Panchayat would approach the High Court to protect the interests of the village and oppose the project.
Addressing the gathering, Anton Vas alleged that certain individuals were attempting to mislead the Panchayat and create confusion over the issue. He assured residents of his full support in opposing the project.
“No matter what happens, this project will not be allowed,” Vas said, adding that the interests of Queleossim and its people would remain the top priority.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous decision to pursue all available legal remedies against the proposed development. Panchayat members also resolved to continue consulting villagers and legal experts to ensure the community’s concerns are effectively represented before the competent authorities.
