QUEPEM: A case of online fraud has been reported from Quepem, where a man was allegedly cheated of ₹2,19,919 after responding to a Facebook advertisement for the sale of a second-hand scooter.
According to the complaint filed by Balu Konkre, resident of Camona, Maina, Quepem, the incident occurred between May 4, 2026, and June 13, 2026. The complainant stated that he came across a Facebook post advertising a Honda Activa for ₹25,000.
After contacting the seller, the accused allegedly introduced himself as “Prakash Talewad” and claimed to be a CISF personnel. He then allegedly convinced the complainant to transfer money through various UPI IDs under different pretexts, including transportation charges, security deposit, GST, insurance, and tax, all promised as refundable amounts.
Believing these representations, the complainant transferred a total of ₹2,19,919 through multiple online transactions. However, the scooter was never delivered, and the money was not refunded.
Following the complaint, Quepem Police have registered a case of cheating. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Siddesh Naik of Quepem Police Station.
