New Delhi:
The race to find the next person to take over Jay Shah as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary heats up with the members who were part of the 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) asking to quicken the process of finding Shah’s successor for the role.
Since taking up the role as BCCI secretary in 2019, Shah is expected to bring an end to his tenure in the last week of November to take over his new position as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for three years starting from December.
According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), it is suggested that the members of the meeting had discussed the plans regarding Shah’s successors in a bid to keep the move as open as possible.
“It was a normal request to keep all due process in place at the earliest as there will be clarity for us. Also, we have some big events like the IPL auction coming up, so it should not be like we will be handling everything at one go,” a state association representative who attended the AGM said, as quoted by PTI.
The report also tips Rohan Jaitley, the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, BCCI Treasurer Ashish Shelar, the Joint Secretary, Devajit Saikia and the Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association Anil Patel as front-runners to take over Shah’s role.
Following the AGM meeting in Bengaluru, the BCCI announced that both Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya had been elected into the Indian Premier League Governing Council on Sunday as well.
Former Andhra cricketer, V. Chamundeswarnath was nominated by the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) as a player representative and was inducted into the IPL GC.
“The members of the general body also appreciated the efforts of the office bearers for the work undertaken with respect to the new National Cricket Academy campus, dubbed as the Centre of Excellence near the Bengaluru
In that context, the AGM also featured the screening of a 17-minute-long tribute video to Shah, highlighting the strong services he rendered to Indian cricket in his role as the board’s secretary.
