MARGAO: In a major breakthrough against mobile phone thefts on trains, the Railway Police have arrested four persons and recovered 60 stolen mobile phones allegedly snatched from passengers during train journeys.
According to Railway Police, the accused allegedly targeted unsuspecting passengers travelling on various trains and snatched their mobile phones during the journey before attempting to dispose of the stolen devices to avoid detection.
Acting on specific intelligence and after a detailed investigation, Railway Police traced the suspects and arrested all four accused. During the operation, officers recovered 60 mobile phones believed to have been stolen from railway passengers.
Police said efforts are underway to identify the rightful owners of the recovered mobile phones and return the devices to them. Investigators are also examining whether the accused are linked to similar theft and snatching cases reported from other railway stations and train routes.
The Railway Police have appealed to passengers to remain vigilant while travelling, keep their valuables secure, and immediately report any theft or suspicious activity to the nearest Railway Police personnel or through the railway helpline.
