PONDA: The rain at Western Ghats since past two weeks at bordering Karnataka helped to rejuvenate water level at OPA which get water from Dudhsagar tributary of Mhadei. This gave relief to Ponda , Tiswadi Locals as OPA Water Works has sufficient quantity of water.
Delayed monsoon causes water shortages at various parts of Goa as water level some dams almost reached at ground level but OPA river water reservoir level measured at 5 Meter on Wednesday which is the highest level.
It is learnt from sources that since past few days the OPA Water level was increasing due to rain in Goa and bordering Karnataka following which pumping water from Mining pits was stopped.
According to officials in peak summer OPA water level reduce and normally maintained at 3 to 3.5 meter from various sources of water beside Dudhsagar river
It treats around 160 MLD water daily and its source is Dudhsagar river tributary of Mhadei beside Ganjem Bandhara supply 100 MLD and Salaulim dam supply 50 MLD to OPA Water Works.
But despite this recently month ago at peak summer the water level at OPA also reached at low level at 2.5 meter, but for smooth pumping of raw water to treatment plants the officials installed pumps for few days at some huge mining pits full of water at Dharbandora to maintain the water level for required for pumping at treatment plants at peak summer.
