FATORDA: With Christmas around the corner, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai today demanded that the state government relax sound restrictions.
“With Christmas around the corner, and with Goemkars celebrating marriages and traditional festivals, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant must stop equating Goan social and cultural events with rave parties and exempt them from the sound ban forthwith,” said Sardesai.
He further said that private events and annual cultural festivities should be exempted from the 10.00 pm restriction imposed on loud music in the open.
Sardesai accused the government of inefficiency in protecting the cultural ethos of the State and the sentiments of the people.
The High Court has asked concerned authorities to take stern measures to stop loud music beyond 10 pm except on designated dates.
On November 30, the High Court directed the GSPCB, Sub Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to ensure that no loud music is played beyond 10 pm at the parties held across the State.
Meanwhile, the Goa Police have submitted an Action Taken Report wherein violators of time restriction for playing music were booked and their equipment seized.
