CANACONA: A Karnataka native working as a waiter at a restaurant in Canacona has been arrested by Canacona Police for allegedly possessing banned narcotic substance Charas.
According to reports, Canacona Police conducted a late Wednesday night raid and seized 26.9 grams of Charas from the accused.
The arrested person has been identified as Sidhlingeshwar Malleshappa Basgi, a resident of Bagalkot, Karnataka, who was working as a waiter at a restaurant near Patnem Beach and residing in Canacona.
Canacona Police, keeping a close watch on narcotic activities in the tourism-dominated coastal areas of the taluka, have been regularly conducting raids under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police sources stated that the latest raid is the eighth successful narcotics-related operation conducted since Police Inspector Pravin Gawas took charge at Canacona Police Station. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Nilesh Rane.
