PANAJI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Directorate will carry out a comprehensive hygiene audit of all restaurants in the state in order to improve food safety regulations and guarantee cleanliness in eateries that operate there.
The FDA estimates that Goa is home to about 10,000 restaurants.
The action was taken in response to many complaints about unhygienic conditions in a few restaurants in the state that were made by both locals and visitors.
In a social media post, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane stated, “The Food and Drug Administration has been instructed to implement stringent measures with immediate effect in response to the numerous complaints received from both local residents and tourists regarding unsanitary conditions in a few restaurants in Goa.”
All eateries will undergo hygienic inspections by FDA officers and third-party auditors appointed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
An official hygiene rating certificate must now be obtained by every restaurant and displayed publicly on the establishment’s property. According to Rane, these thorough audits would assess compliance with FSSAI food safety regulations, upkeep of appropriate sanitation procedures, employee hygiene training methods, and waste management systems.
According to him, restaurant owners need to make sure that all of these rules are followed because failure to do so could lead to severe consequences under the current food safety laws.
“This initiative’s main goals are to raise food safety standards and rebuild public trust in Goa’s restaurant sector. Restaurant owners can get in touch with the FDA office during regular business hours if they need clarification or more information,” he said
