PANAJI: The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has issued a strong public statement defending disciplinary action taken in connection with party member Julius Almeida, alleging that several of his past social media posts promoted communal division and religious hostility.
In a post shared on the party’s official social media platform, RGP stated that the matter was no longer an internal issue but one that concerned the wider public. The party urged citizens to examine the controversial posts and decide whether the action initiated by the party’s Core Executive Committee (CEC) was justified.
RGP questioned whether political workers, elected representatives and party leaders should continue to maintain ties with individuals accused of repeatedly posting content targeting another religious community.
The regional party claimed it had remained silent on the issue for nearly four years despite growing concerns over the nature of the posts. However, it stated that the leadership eventually decided intervention had become necessary in the interest of maintaining communal harmony and safeguarding the party’s principles.
The statement was accompanied by screenshots of alleged Facebook posts attributed to Almeida, containing remarks viewed by the party as inflammatory and socially divisive.
The controversy has triggered fresh debate within political circles over internal discipline, public accountability and the role of social media conduct among political functionaries in Goa.
