CALANGUTE: “I am deeply touched by our PM @narendramodi ji’s initiative to visit the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Delhi wherein he lit a candle and offered prayers,” said Calangute MLA Michael Lobo reacting to Modi’s visit to church.
He said, “I feel, on Easter Day, observed globally to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he has sent a message of unity, peace and prosperity.”
This was the first time a sitting Prime Minister visited a church, he added.
“The fact that the visit, in itself, is a big message. We know he cares about all minorities, including Christians. He has won many hearts with this gesture of visiting the cathedral,” Lobo said.
The MLA further went on to say that Modi’s gesture shows how much he respects every religion.
“In his recent speeches, Modi ji has underlined the minority community’s growing connect with the BJP and also underscored his government’s commitment to the mottos of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ and development for all without any discrimination,” he said.
Lobo also pointed out that Fr. Francis Swaminathan of the church said the visit would demonstrate his support for the minorities.
“PM Modi, during his visit to Europe, invited Pope Francis to visit India during a “very warm” meeting at the Vatican City,” he said.
