SALIGAO: Saligao Police arrested a 33-year-old man after allegedly catching him red-handed accepting gambling bets from members of the public at Nerul on Tuesday evening.
According to police, the accused, identified as Mohamed Rafiq Gulzar of Chimbel, Tiswadi, was found operating an illegal gambling activity near Fattawada, Nerul, at around 8.35 pm on June 23.
Acting on information, a police team led by PSI Jugal Divkar conducted a raid and allegedly found the accused accepting bets and issuing slips containing numerical figures for a game of chance in an open public place.
During the operation, police seized cash amounting to Rs 1,550 in different denominations along with other articles allegedly used for gambling activities.
The accused was placed under arrest at 10.08 pm and was later released on bail the same night at 10.24 pm after completion of legal formalities.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Jugal Divkar of Saligao Police Station.
