CHINCHINIM: A scooter rider was killed and another person injured in a road accident at Dandewado, Chinchinim, on August 24, 2026, after an Alto car allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner collided with an oncoming electric scooter.
According to a state complaint filed by Tukaram Velip, Head Constable 6922 of Cuncolim Police Station, the accident occurred prior to 11:01 am when the accused, identified as Swatantra Kumar Chauhan, a resident of Velim, Salcete, and originally from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, was driving a Maruti Suzuki Alto from Dandewado towards Sarzora.
Police said that upon reaching Dandewado, Chauhan allegedly drove the car in a rash and negligent manner and collided with an oncoming E2Go electric scooter travelling from Sarzora towards Dandewado.
The impact allegedly caused the scooter to be dragged for some distance along with its rider, Sikandar Kandulna, a resident of Chinchinim and originally from Odisha.
Kandulna sustained serious injuries in the collision and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The occupant of the Alto car, identified as Kiran Chauhan, also sustained injuries.
Cuncolim Police Station has registered Crime No. 44/2026 under Sections 281, 125(a) and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Sudan Bhosle of Cuncolim Police Station.
