PONDA: The Kavlem special gramsabha held thursday late evening demanded to clear the RK another scrapyard claiming to be big nuisance to Public.
The locals said RK Scrapyard that caught fire not only blocked NH for three days but also government wasted around two lakh liters in dousing fire. The NH was blocked for three days for dousing fire. The locals questioned why general public should cause inconvenience due to illegal scrapyards.
The gramsabha Chaired by Sarpanch Manuja Naik, Deputy Sushant Kapileshwarkar and Panchmembers wherein locals presents for meeting seriously discussed the nuisance faced by public after Masive Fire to Dhavlim Scrapyard. The Locals demanded that the action be taken against all 30 illegal scrapyard business operating under section 133 of IPC.
If no action comes locals warned to come on road. The Local said luckily there was no life lost however forced to face hazardous smoke for several days. If no action comes than fire incident may repeat in area leading to havoc. The lawyer of Panchayat Adv. Surel Tilve was also present for meeting.
Locals suspected Rohingyas residing in area and demanded police inquiry.
Locals said DPanchayat should present its strong points against scrapyard that that the said Scrapyard after fire blocked Highway for three days due to which commuters suffered hardship in finding internal and diversion roads, there is petrol pump nearby, its residential area, there is community hall and located by side of Highway.
The Locals said the Highway was never closed except during covid pandemic and in 1986 during Konkani-Marathi language agitation issue and this is third time because of fire to illegal scrapyard NH was closed.
There are around 30 illegal scrapyards in Panchayat. There has been demolition orders by Panchayat and BDOs for scrapyards however owners approaches Court and gets stay to their demolition order.
The Locals demanded tenant verification at this scrapyard and even expressed concern if no action comes than there may rise in hutments near scrapyards.
Meanwhile RK Scrapyard business operation issue is subjudice in Court and hearing was held today and next hearing scheduled on 18 May.
