PANAJI: In order to promote seaweed culture in the State Minister for Fisheries Nilkanth Halarnkar said that department has requested NIO and CMFRI to assist the Government in identification of ideal sites for seaweed culture.
“In order to promote seaweed culture in the State, Department has requested NIO and CMFRI to assist the Government in identification of ideal sites for seaweed culture,”said Halarnkar
He further said that the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has conducted training for the Department officials.
“Department has nominated few interested applicants and forwarded the list of the interested farmers for hands on training on sea weed culture to National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB),” he added
Halarnkar said that as per the information provided by MPEDA, presently there is no scheme prepared by MPEDA which will be directly beneficial to the Fishermen.
The minister said that Government has constituted Fishermen Welfare Task Force Committee to address their issue. Further there is no meeting held under the Fishermen Welfare Task Force Committee.
“Nomeeting of Fishermen Welfare Task Force Committee was held since its inception,” he added
Meanwhile, Nilkanth said that the grievances raised by the local fishermen have been forwarded to the concerned Department to sought out the issue and if required the Department shall convene the meeting of Task Force.
