GOA VELHA: A 63-year-old scooter rider lost his life in a road accident on NH-66 at Goa Velha after an Innova Hycross car allegedly rammed into his two-wheeler from behind on Friday afternoon.
According to Agacaim Police, the offence was registered on June 6 following a complaint lodged by HC Vinit Kurtikar on behalf of the State. Police stated that the accused, Mohamad Shahir Hamid Shaikh (20), a resident of Margao, was driving a white Innova Hycross bearing registration number GA-08-AD-9009.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 2:30 pm on NH-66, opposite the Benetton Store at Goa Velha. The accused driver was allegedly proceeding from Panaji towards Margao when he drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner at high speed and crashed into the rear right side of an Activa scooter bearing registration number GA-07-V-3023, which was travelling in the same direction.
The scooter rider, identified as Romeu Fernandes (63), a resident of Portel Bhat, Bhatim, Goa Velha, sustained grievous injuries in the collision. He was rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Agacaim Police have registered a case against the driver, and further investigation is being conducted by PSI Rushikesh Raikar.
