PANAJI: In an interesting development, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has decided to go all alone and scrap alliance talks, if any, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, who is in Goa, sparked off alliance talks rumours when he said he would meet MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar.
CM Pramod Sawant also said that the BJP was ready for talks with like-minded parties.
However, the party’s Central Committee on Tuesday decided against any alliance talks with BJP.
MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar said that the Central Committee was of the opinion that MGP must go all alone.
“MGP should go all alone; our party Central Committee has decided,” he said.
He said that the MGP has already decided candidates in 12 constituencies and has already begun work.
“On Nov 10, many others are expected to join MGP, and after that, BJP’s alliance talks will stop,” he said.
On Sunday, Dhavalikar had fuelled alliance rumours when he said he was ready for the alliance if BJP gave them 12 seats.
However, he immediately took a U-turn the next day, saying the media had misquoted him.
