CHICALIM: The Directorate of Panchayats, Government of Goa, organised the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026 – Jansevak Mahakumbh/Sushasan Seva Samvad at the Village Panchayat Chicalim Hall on Thursday, highlighting the role of grassroots institutions in promoting transparent administration and community-centred development.
Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho attended the event as chief guest, while Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar was also present.
The programme featured a State-Level Panchayat Parliament, a Local Self-Governance Conclave, digital outreach initiatives and the felicitation of elected representatives in recognition of their public service and contributions to local development.
Addressing the gathering, Godinho highlighted the changes in rural administration over recent years and said the initiative aimed to showcase the work undertaken by various government departments, including the Directorate of Panchayats.
“We are celebrating the good work done by various departments, including the Panchayat Department, under this initiative,” Godinho said.
He added that programmes had been conducted over the past month to inform people about completed development works, proposed projects and ongoing initiatives.
The minister stressed that recognising well-performing panchayats was important to encourage elected representatives and strengthen their commitment to public service.
According to Godinho, panchayat administration had undergone significant changes over the past seven years, with local bodies demonstrating improved performance in their respective jurisdictions.
He said the felicitation of panchayats served not only to recognise their efforts but also to encourage healthy competition among local bodies to improve service delivery and development outcomes.
Godinho noted that such competition could motivate panchayats to perform better, ultimately benefiting residents through more effective administration and improved public services.
The Jansevak Mahakumbh also provided a platform to highlight initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between citizens and the government, while promoting accountability and transparency in local governance.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026 seeks to reinforce the role of panchayats as key institutions of grassroots democracy and encourage people-oriented development across Goa.
