PONDA: Seven India Post employees retrenched from service staged dharna along with family in front of the post office.
There has been growing support to post office employees as locals warned to stage agitation if they were not reinstated.
Pondaitees led by Dr Ketan Bhatikar grilled the post office in charge over the sudden removal of these employees, replacing them with Maharashtra employees. The post office in charge said they are appointed by their seniors in Central Government and that he has to follow the order. They are recruited after due exams of the Department.
However, Ponda locals questioned how the government could do injustice to postmen who worked for 8 to 18 years and would give them a job at the age of 40 and 50 and what about the future of family and aged parents as how they will feed the family.
Meanwhile, the postal employee, in a letter to the Superintendent of Post at Panajim had requested to reinstate them to their jobs, and the copies are also forwarded to Ponda MLA and Minister, the Chief Minister, The Goa Human Rights Commission, Panaji – Goa and The Labour Commissioner, Labour Department, Panaji – Goa.
The letter signed by them said that they have been working in the Indian Post office for last more than 7-18 years. That some of them have reached almost 50 years of age. Moreover, they are working on very less salary compared to the minimum wages and Labour Act. They have done their duties regularly, sincerely, and utmost to their superiors’ satisfaction and guidance. They have dedicated their whole life to post office service.
