PANAJI: Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued six persons from drowning and administered first aid to six others in separate incidents reported across Goa’s coastline over the weekend. Lifesavers also reunited a missing child with his family and returned two lost mobile phones to their owners.
At Ozran beach, a 17-year-old tourist from Pune was rescued after being caught in a flash rip current while swimming. Lifesaver Bhagwan Parab used a rescue tube to bring the teenager safely back to shore after he drifted into deeper waters.
At Baga beach, two 21-year-old tourists were rescued in separate incidents after venturing into dangerous waters. A tourist from Maharashtra was rescued by lifesaver Ankur Choudhary after drifting into deeper waters, while another tourist from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, was rescued by lifesavers Chandan Giri and Suryakant Paryekar after being caught in a rip current despite repeated warnings.
In another incident at Baga, a five-year-old boy found wandering alone during patrol duty was safely reunited with his father after lifesaver Sainath Gawas made a public announcement.
At Candolim beach, a 22-year-old tourist from Belagavi suffered a suspected spinal injury after repeatedly jumping into the water despite warnings. Lifesavers Sujit Kumar, Santosh Patil and Ramakant Kankonkar rescued and safely extracted the victim, who was unable to move his hands or legs.
At Sinquerim beach, a 52-year-old tourist from Dharwad sustained a knee dislocation after a strong wave hit his family while they stood in knee-deep water. Lifesavers Mehboob Tahsildar and Umesh Mhadaikar provided immediate medical assistance before shifting him to Candolim Primary Health Centre.
At Vainguinim beach near Dona Paula, an 11-year-old boy who fell into the water from a private jetty was rescued by a nearby water sports operator using a jet ski. Drishti Marine lifesaver Mahadev monitored the boy’s condition until medical professionals arrived.
At Benaulim beach, a 25-year-old water sports staff member from Odisha suffered a cut on his hand while opening a jeep door and was administered first aid by tower captain Siddesh Gaonkar.
Two local boys aged 10 and 11 were rescued at Baina beach after being swept away by strong waves. Lifesaver Ravichandra rescued both using a rescue tube, while one boy, who was in shock, was shifted to Chicalim Community Health Centre and later referred to Goa Medical College.
At Palolem beach, two tourists were administered first aid in separate incidents. A 41-year-old tourist from Maharashtra suffered a foot injury caused by broken glass in the water, while a tourist from Hyderabad injured his leg after slipping on rocks. Lifesaver Satywan Kobrekar attended to both.
Meanwhile, lost mobile phones recovered during patrols at Calangute and Colva beaches were safely returned to their owners after verification by Drishti Marine personnel and police.
