PANAJI: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho said that while some village panchayats are actively working to maintain cleanliness, others seem indifferent.
“I don’t hold all panchayats responsible for the challenges in garbage management. Panchayats shouldn’t be dependent 100% on govt to keep their villages clean,” said Mauvin.
He further said that funds allocated to panchayats are put in fixed deposits.
“These funds should be used & not kept in FDs, p’yats will not get more funds until they show utilization certificates to the department,” said Godinho.
Godinho also came down heavily on the GMR, accusing them of using pressure tactics at the Centre to redirect flights from Dabolim airport to the Manohar International Airport (MIA), Mopa.
“I am specifically saying that GMR is pressurising certain people at different levels, even the Centre level, to divert flights to MIA so that they continue their operations. They want to indirectly kill Dabolim which I won’t allow to happen at any cost. Dabolim is here to stay,” he said.
