Panaji: Sonics successfully defended their crown in the State Junior Girls Basketball Championships 2026 with a commanding 38-22 win against Don Bosco Sports Academy, Fatorda. The tournament, which serves as the selection platform for the upcoming 76th Junior National Basketball Championship, saw Sonics deliver a composed and dominant performance in the final held at the Don Bosco College of Engineering outdoor court in Fatorda.
From the opening whistle, Sonics asserted control over the game, taking an early 10-3 lead in the first quarter. Their disciplined defense and steady scoring ensured they maintained the upper hand throughout the contest. The team continued to outplay their opponents across all four quarters, with consistent scoring patterns reflected in the period-wise tally of 10-3, 10-9, 6-4, and 12-6, comfortably closing the match with a 16-point margin.
Kim D’Souza emerged as the standout performer in the final, leading the scoring charts with 17 points. She was well supported by Enira Fernandes, who contributed 9 points, while Keiya Fernandes added 7. Ace Moraes also played a key role, chipping in with 4 points and making a strong overall impact on the game.
For DBSA Fatorda, Aanora Gracias led their scoring effort with 9 points. Itcha Nalawde and Bianca Pereira supported with 6 and 5 points respectively, but the team struggled to match Sonics’ consistency and defensive strength.
Ace Moraes was named the Most Valuable Player of the final, while Kim D’Souza earned the tournament MVP award for her exceptional performances throughout the competition.
In the semifinals, Sonics delivered a dominant display, defeating Ponda Basketball Club 49-4, with Kim D’Souza scoring 16 points and Keiya Fernandes adding 12. DBSA Fatorda secured their place in the final with a 28-10 victory over Sharada Mandir, where Natalie Fernandes and Itcha Nalawde shared MVP honours.
