MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha along with Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and other leaders on Tuesday met South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus, urging authorities to halt land acquisition by the railways at Velaso, citing that the matter remains sub judice.
Addressing the media after the meeting, the leaders expressed concern that despite the issue pending for the past four years, no hearings have taken place. They alleged that repeated adjournments have delayed justice for local residents.
The delegation further claimed that the railways have failed to produce adequate documentation to substantiate their claim over the land where work has reportedly commenced. They accused authorities of proceeding without clarity and disregarding the concerns of locals.
Criticising the government, the leaders alleged that support was being extended to the railways at the cost of Goan residents. They also warned that if ongoing work is not halted, they would intensify their agitation.
However, officials maintained that the matter is under due process, and any action will be taken in accordance with legal procedures.
