MARGAO: The South Goa district administration on Monday reviewed the overall law and order situation in South Goa and Kushavati districts, with a focus on public safety, crime prevention and enforcement of key laws.
The meeting was chaired by District Magistrate Egna Cleetus, IAS, and co-chaired by Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma, IPS, in the presence of Additional Collector-II Ramesh Gaonkar. It was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), SDPOs and Police Inspectors from both districts.
The meeting reviewed the status of cases under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), maintenance of parents and senior citizens, disposal of dead bodies and custodial death cases. SDMs were directed to ensure timely disposal of such matters while maintaining sensitivity and dignity.
The District-Level Oversight Committee report was also reviewed, with SDMs instructed to conduct regular inspections of CCTV installations at police stations and submit monthly reports.
Authorities also discussed security arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and the Saptah festival, directing officials to ensure adequate security and public safety measures.
The issue of stray cattle was reviewed, with officials stressing the need to shift animals to designated shelter homes. The administration also directed police to initiate appropriate action against landowners on whose premises illegal bullfights are organised.
The meeting further reviewed child begging, child labour, crimes against women, offences involving Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and drug-related crimes. The status of inspections under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) was also assessed, with Deputy Collectors instructed to direct Mamlatdars to carry out regular enforcement drives.
Scrapyards operating in the districts also came up for discussion, with SDMs directed to dispose of related cases in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.
The administration additionally emphasised strengthening traffic management and implementing preventive and enforcement measures to reduce road accidents across South Goa and Kushavati districts.
