MARGAO: Preparations for the Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2027 were reviewed at a high-level meeting chaired by South Goa Collector and District Election Officer (DEO) Egna Cleetus, IAS, along with officials overseeing the South Goa and Kushavati districts.
The meeting was attended by Nodal Officers handling various election-related responsibilities, including manpower management, polling station facilities and election logistics.
Officials reviewed the preparedness of polling stations, with emphasis on complying with the Representation of the People Act, the Conduct of Elections Rules, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines to ensure free, fair and smooth conduct of the elections.
Key issues discussed included shifting polling stations to ground-floor locations wherever feasible, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply, providing adequate rooms and basic amenities for women polling personnel, and creating accessible toilet facilities, including PwD-friendly toilets, at all polling stations.
Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) were directed to coordinate with the concerned departments to undertake the required infrastructure works. Officials also decided that separate signage for South Goa and Kushavati districts would be displayed in the respective Assembly Constituencies.
The Public Works Department has been asked to submit cost estimates for the proposed works, while issues relating to internet connectivity and other critical infrastructure will be addressed in coordination with the concerned departments to ensure long-term solutions. All pending infrastructure works and inspections are expected to be completed by the end of September.
The District Election Officer also briefed newly appointed Returning Officers (ROs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) on Election Commission guidelines. Returning Officers were instructed to identify personnel for Flying Squads, Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs), and Flying Squad Teams well in advance to facilitate efficient planning for the 2027 Assembly elections.
