PANAJI: With an aim to make Goa the first stroke intervention-friendly state, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that a specialized stroke centre with a dedicated Neurosciences cath lab will be built at the Super Specialty Block to cater to all types of stroke cases.
“A specialized stroke centre with a dedicated Neurosciences cath lab will be built at the Super Specialty Block to cater to all types of stroke cases,” said Rane.
He further said that Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) has started initiating Neuro-interventions in the last two months.
“These include digital subtraction angiograms of the brain and spine, carotid artery stentings, vertebral ostial stentings, and AV malformation embolizations,” he added.
Rane said that a team will begin aneurysmal coilings and mechanical thrombectomies for acute strokes soon.
“We already have two new Cath labs in the process; another Cath lab will be introduced, which will be dedicated to the neurology department for coiling,” said Rane.
He said they emphasized ways to further enhance the department, introduce new facilities for the patients and bring in new technologies for doctors.
“Our objective for discussion was to ensure we start the new unit of Cardiology Dept. at Super Specialty Block at the earliest,” he added.
