PANAJI: The Goa Government has initiated a statewide enforcement drive to curb the operation of unauthorised plant nurseries and strengthen compliance with laws governing the sale of fruit and ornamental plants.
The Agriculture Department has been instructed to identify nurseries functioning without valid licences and take appropriate action against operators found violating the provisions of the Goa Fruit and Ornamental Plant Nurseries (Regulation) Act.
The exercise aims to ensure that nurseries maintain the required standards for plant production, storage and sale while safeguarding buyers from purchasing substandard or unhealthy planting material.
Officials will conduct inspections across the State to verify licences, examine records and check whether nurseries are adhering to prescribed norms. Legal action will be initiated wherever violations are detected.
The government believes the initiative will help regulate the nursery sector, improve the quality of planting material available to farmers and gardeners, and reduce the risk of pests and plant diseases spreading through unregulated trade.
