Panaji: The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman will witness a significant milestone with the elevation of Stella Maris Chapel to the status of a Church on April 15, 2026.
The solemn ceremony is scheduled to take place at 5 pm at Miramar and will be presided over by Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão. The event is expected to be attended by members of the clergy, dignitaries, and parishioners, and will include special liturgical celebrations and prayers.
The elevation marks an important development for the Catholic community in Goa, particularly for residents of Miramar, reflecting the region’s faith, traditions, and cultural heritage.
The chapel, which has been under the jurisdiction of St. Inez Parish since 1989, has served the local faithful for decades. The process for its elevation to a Church began over 15 years ago and is the culmination of sustained efforts and dedication by the parish community and successive chaplains.
The development has been facilitated by the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media, which described the occasion as a historic and grace-filled moment for the faithful.
