PANAJI: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Commissioner today has warned of strict action against those involved in the SOPO collection scam at Panaji Municipal Market.
“There is a big chain involved here; strict action will be taken against those involved in the scam. This has been happening for the last 10 to 15 years,” said CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira
He further said that action would be initiated.
Former CCP Mayor Madkaikar shared a 27-second long video with media persons, wherein he reportedly confronted a CCP-appointed worker for collecting money in the name of sopo from vendors without giving them the receipt.
In the particular video, the sopo collector is seen telling Madkaikar to question ‘Master’ and not him.
“I am shocked to know that no receipts are given to vendors after collecting money by our CCP staff, the one who is collecting money in the name of sopo from fish and vegetable vendors who conduct their business between 6 am and 9 am revealed that his master instructed him not to give the receipt.”
