BAMBOLIM: Sports Minister Govind Gaude today said that the state government will replace the synthetic tracks at GMC Athletics Stadium in Bambolim ahead of the National Games.
The synthetic tracks were laid at both venues for the Lusofonia Games in the year 2014.
“Government will replace the synthetic tracks at GMC Athletics Stadium in Bambolim and Peddem sports complex, ahead of the National Games,” said Gaude speaking to the media
He further said that everything would be done at a faster pace. The entire track will have to complete the track laying before monsoon.
“The new athletics tracks are expected to be laid before May end. The infrastructure for hosting national games is getting ready. We are floating the tenders for whatever work is left,” Gaude said.
Goa got the rights to host the National Games in 2008 but hasn’t been able to host the games for a number of reasons.
Goa was set to host the 36th edition of the National Games, but the IOA had to shift the venue to Gujarat, who agreed to conduct the event in a short span of time.
After a couple of delays in 2018 and 2019 due to a lack of infrastructure, the Games were further postponed to 2020.
But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Games had to be postponed again as the Goa government expressed its inability to host the event before December last year.
