CANACONA: In a direct and public retort, WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar and Canacona MLA/GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar were rebuked for not inviting the landowner on whose land the dignitaries inaugurated a project.
Earlier, WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, in the presence of Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, inaugurated a Lat-Baim at Dapot-Maxem in Loliem-Polem village. Sarpanch Pratiza Bandekar, Dy. Sarpanch Chandrakant Sudhir, ex-Sarpanch’s/Panch’s Sachin Naik, Ajay Lolienkar, Panch Ashutosh Naik and Nisha Chari were present. A minute silence was observed in memory of ex-Sarpanch and area Ex-Panch Nishant Prabhudessai, who proposed the development of the Lat-Baim.
Incidentally, it was exactly a month ago that Nishant, a well-known social worker in Canacona, died in an unfortunate manner.
Speaking after the inauguration, WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar informed the department will carry out water-mapping of Loliem-Polem village.
“The village is an Oasis in itself, and the rich availability of water should be naturally tapped and not artificially pumped,” he said.
Shirodkar also suggested using a Solar pump to lift the water from the Lat-Baim and use it for Cattle and other animals’ use.
Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar also spoke as well as Sarpanch Pratiza Bandekar. Just after the program got over, a visibly angry Mahesh Warik, a well-known and staunch BJP supporter walked in and started to question the WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar for not Inviting the landlord of the place where the Lat-Baim was inaugurated by him.
“Today, you inaugurated this Lat-Baim; the landlord is not the landlord is required for NOC. In future, These types of issues should not happen with the government, I am not saying with you (pointing to Minister), in the same manner, some were promisings Gaddas, Jobs if IIT comes in the village, but for the simple inauguration, the government cannot call a member of public (the landlord who has given his land) to the function, and I don’t think if IIT had come, even a Safaiwala- Job any villager would have got.
On one side, Speaker Tawadkar was trying to pacify Warik, with both Shirodkar and Tawadkar trying to give him a flower bouquet in his hands, who, however, flatly refused, saying, “I had no expectation of flowers, but these certain issues need to be brought to your all for the notice.”
Taking his ire further, Warik said, “you people are only shouting that Goan people are not coming forward to spar their land for the government works, you people are only shouting it on TVs, try to find the reasons for it, and I say these are the typical reasons for people not giving their land, I had not demanded to our my father’ name board here! It’s government money and landlords land, let the name be of anyone, I won’t talk wrong, Sir(Speaker) knows my behaviour! Did I tell you to put my Father’s name?? Today was the inauguration. Did anyone invite me ?’ Warik questioned Minister, who quickly accepted ‘Chuk keli’ (A mistake is made)
To this again, Warik retorted, ‘ Why is there no improvement in mistakes why every time such mistakes are made? This work was brought by Nishant Prabhudessai (Ex-sarpanch), and today it is exactly a month that he had gone. It too believe that government should get all the cooperation of Goans, but see government knows to respect people are right from ground level.
Incidentally, Mahesh Warik is a staunch BJP supporter and diehard fan of the late Manohar Parrikar. Warik, at one time, had grown his beard and refused to shave till the work on the twin bridges of Galgibaga and Talpona were not taken up, and he shaved only when works began.
