PANAJI: Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo today said that there is need to urgently look into maintaining the Chapora Fort and that a tender will soon be out for maintainence.
“Today if you see there are a lot of stones which have fallen and there is an urgent need to repair it. We will soon be tendering the maintaince of the fort,” said Lobo
She further said that stalls need to be properly allocated and placed in a systamatic manner as at present it looks like a slum area.
Minister for Archives Subhash Phaldessai on Wednesday said the State government will soon take up restoration work of the Chapora Fort, which will help in increasing the touristic significance of the place.
Phaldessai informed that the restoration and beautification work of the fort has been tendered at Rs 2.6 crore.
The minister was upset with unauthorised vendors and some others who were carrying out illegal business in the fort area.
Phaldessai said that so far, many people were doing business in the area but were not paying a single paise to anyone.
Phaldessai warned that he won’t shy away from cracking the whip against those who were trying to grab government land and doing illegal business near the Chapora Fort.
