PONDA: Tense situation prevailed on Tuesday morning at Undir Bandora over the construction of 15 MLD STP, as furious locals stopped landfilling for 15 MLD STP, stating that it is a catchment area, an eco-sensitive zone for mangrove trees and also the livelihood of people depends upon fishing activity.
The locals, led by Mukund Naik, grilled the sewerage official Pradeep Gaude over the landfilling issue.
The contractor involved in dumping and landfilling said he is doing it at the instruction of Sewerage Engineer Pradeep Gaude.
However, Pradeep Gaude rejected that he had permitted the landfilling.

He said the sewerage Plant would cause a stench smell in the area as also it would lead to flooding in the area if STP is built in the Catchment area. He said Ponda Nullah floods every year, and this is the catchment area for flood.
Villagers also demanded that the site at which the sewerage plant is located has thousands of mangrove trees, and it’s destruction for building the STP plant would cause major flooding in the area.
