CANACONA: Tarangotsav will be celebrated from Sunday, 26th February 2023, to Sunday, 12th March 2023, IN Canacona taluka area Shri Mallikarjuna Temple, Shristhal. The Temple adores the deity of “Sri Mallikarjuna Dev Advat Simhanaadhiswara Mahapati, and according to Shri Mallikarjun Devasthan Samiti president Vithoba Dessai, ‘This year’s Tarang festival, which in fact started on 6th January in the courtyard of Mallikarjuna Temple, will conclude with the famous and highly ethnic ritual of ‘Shisharanni’ festival on 12th March on the Phalgun Shashti.’
For about two months, Sri Avatara Purusha goes around throughout Canacona and to North-Karnataka. During this period, Tarang, Ghode, Mel and Sevekar move around in the procession. According to traditional customs, God’s incarnation (occasion) occurs at a particular place (Gharvaya) on a specific date and ‘Kaul and Prasad’ are distributed to the devotees and believers.
On Sunday, 26th February 2023, at 8:00 PM, the first incarnation of all three Melas of Avatarpurusha will be held in the Canacona region at Khalwadem. On Monday, February 27th, a mela of Avatar Purusha will take place at 8.30 pm on Shri Nirakar Mandir, Kindle. On Tuesday, February 28, one mela will be held at Babrem at 1.30 pm and two melas at Kindlem at 9.00 pm. On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, two melas will be held at Babrem at 1.30 pm and one mela at Patnem at 7.00 pm. . On Thursday 2nd March, two melas will be held at Bhagatwada at 2.30 pm and one mela at Patnem at 7.00 pm. On Friday, 3rd March, at 2 pm, two melas Avatars will be held at Bhakta-Math. On Monday 6th March, the day of Holi Poornima, all three Melas will be combined at jointly held Avtar at Bokdamoll, Agonda, at 11.30 pm.
On Friday 10th, March, Suhasinis will fast for Divjas, and at 8.00 pm, a procession will be taken out in the Rath, and in the morning, the three Gharvai will be incarnated. On the morning of Saturday, 11th March, all the Suhasinis will take their traditional Divas and participate in the Bhonwari (procession) of Divas in the courtyard of Shri Mallikarjuna Deva. After the three Bhovaris of Velip, Kindlekar Desai Gaonkar and Nagarsekar Desai Gaonkar, there will be a program of piercing the ears of the Kinarkar boys and about girls.
At 8.00 pm, there will be a procession of Shri Mallikarjun in a Rath followed by Suvarivadan by Dev and Kholkar brothers and after that, Gulalotsav will be celebrated.
The famous Shashti fair will be celebrated on Sunday, March 12. After Bhonwari, Tulabhar will be offered to Lord Mallikarjun at approximately 10.30.
At three o’clock in the afternoon, the famous Shisharanni Utsav Avatar and Kaul Prasad will take place. A large number of devotees attend this festival which happens every two years., informed Dessai in a press note.
