OLD GOA: Old Goa Police have registered a case against three persons for allegedly transporting around 30 pigs in cruel and inhuman conditions near the Panjim-Bambolim stretch early Tuesday morning.
The case was registered on May 27 at 11:49 am under Sections 281, 125, 325 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 11(1)(d) and 11(1)(e) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
According to the complaint filed by Manoj B. Meghwal, 25, resident of Calapura, St Cruz, the accused identified as Shivekumar T.B. Patil, Sudeep Bhistappa Dodamani and Anand were found transporting approximately 30 pigs in vehicle bearing registration number GA-09-L-4701 without proper ventilation, adequate space and valid transport documents.
Police said the accused also failed to produce the RC book and mandatory veterinary fitness certificate during checking. The complainant along with his team intercepted the vehicle during the operation.
Inquiry further revealed that the pigs were allegedly being transported for slaughtering purposes.
Police further stated that when the complainant and his team attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove in a rash and dangerous manner in an attempt to flee, thereby endangering the lives of the complainant, his team members and members of the public.
