MARGAO: The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has announced the recipients of its Young Achievers Awards 2025 — Aston Soares, Pierson D’Costa, Fevila Fernandes, and Maria Suizel Afonso — in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Goa’s vibrant tiatr stage.
The awards celebrate young artistes who have excelled in acting, music, direction, and performance, carrying forward the legacy of Konkani tiatr, one of Goa’s most cherished performing arts traditions.
TAG President Anthony Barbosa congratulated the awardees and commended their dedication and artistic excellence. “Their achievements serve as an inspiration for the younger generation to continue enriching Goa’s cultural landscape,” he said.
Aston Soares, from Margao, began his tiatr journey in 2007 under the guidance of Menino Mario and went on to perform in several tiatrs with well-known directors including Anthony De Cunha, Inacio Dias, Milagres De Chandor, and Menino De Bandar. A versatile artiste, Aston has also written and directed khell-tiatrs and songs.
Pierson D’Costa, from Navelim, is a talented writer, director, singer, and composer who began his career in 2014 with Novo Dis Udetana. His directorial debut Tunch Chintun Poi (2022) received wide appreciation, and his latest tiatr Munis Mortoch Rodon Faido Nam is set for release in 2025. Pierson has also made his mark in Konkani films and music, performing across Goa and Mumbai and sharing his work on digital platforms.
Fevila Fernandes, a 25-year-old musician from Paroda-Quepem, is celebrated for her mastery of drums, bass guitar, and saxophone. She has performed for renowned directors including Menino Mario, John D’Silva, and Wilma Pacheco, and has earned recognition as Goa’s “Youngest Musical Queen.”
Maria Suizel Afonso, from Cumbharjua, is being honoured for her acting excellence, having performed in over 25 tiatrs directed by Pascoal De Chicalim, Romeo D’Costa, and Antonet De Souza. Her notable performances in Swachh Bharat, Sopon, Rochna, and Tum Mhaka Zai highlight her range and commitment to the stage.
Through these Young Achievers Awards, the Tiatr Academy of Goa continues its mission to nurture emerging talent and celebrate the creativity that sustains Goa’s unique tiatr tradition. The date and venue for the award presentation will be announced soon.
