PANAJI: As Goa is witnessing a massive surge in COVID-19 cases, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that time has come enforce strict measures to break the chain of spread.
Rane also said that the younger generation should understand the seriousness of the virus and should distance themselves from attending various parties.
“Time has come now that the state enforces strict measures to break the chain of spread. Also the youth should stop themselves from attending various parties. I have seen a lot of pictures from clubs. By doing such activities were are putting more pressure on the state machinery,” said Rane
He further said that Goa will be needing double the quantity of oxygen in the coming few days and there is utmost need for the hospitals in Goa to have more oxygen beds.
“Private Hospitals cannot shy away from responsibility; in my opinion private hospitals should keep at-least 40 percent beds reserved for covid management; I am scared that is such a trend in cases continues then we will be needing 40 beds each day”he said
Rane further infomred that today the state has witnessed 940 new cases and 17 deaths due to the virus which is highest ever in Goa.
“Earlier the virus was setting foot on people above the age of 45 but in this second wave we are observing that it has been affecting the youth and younger generation” the minister said
Health Minister also said that all the wards in Goa Medical College (GMC) are full and now the department is now commissioning ward 121 at GMC in which 30 beds will be exclusivity be for housing COVID patients.
“As testing load is more we have now installed a mobile testing van at GMC and at a later stage when testing goes down we can send the same to Margao for testing,” he added
Meanwhile, Health Minister also informed that many doctors have tested positive for the virus.
“A sincere appeal to those eligible for Plasma Donation to come forward for Convalescent Plasma Therapy and help all our Goan brothers & sisters fighting the menace of COVID-19.,” he added
He also said that he government has requisitioned additional oxygen manufacturing plants in Verna, Madgaon & Cuncolim which will help us in the seamless supply of oxygen to COVID Hospitals.
