Panaji: In a move to address grievances from taxi operators, the Goa Transport Department has issued a stern warning to rent-a-cab operators, mandating them to operate strictly from their registered main official or designated branch offices.
This directive comes on the heels of complaints from taxi operators at Dabolim and Mopa airports, as well as railway and bus stations, who allege that rent-a-cab and rent-a-bike services are encroaching on their business.
The department has made it clear that any rent-a-cab operator found operating from unauthorized public places will face the suspension of their licenses. This measure aims to restore a level playing field and mitigate the competitive disadvantage faced by traditional taxi services.
The complaints highlighted the significant impact of unauthorized rent-a-cab operations on the livelihoods of taxi operators. By enforcing this rule, the Transport Department seeks to ensure compliance and maintain order in the transportation sector.
The new regulations are part of a broader effort to streamline and regulate the transport services in Goa, a state known for its vibrant tourism industry. The move is expected to enhance the overall experience for both tourists and locals by promoting transparency and fairness in transportation services.
