CANACONA: “Tribal Pride Day” and “Tribal Folk Dance Festival” as part of Birth-Anniversary celebrations on Bhagwan Birsa Munda is organized while the awareness yatra (rally) of the Tribal Leader has begun at Khotigao on Saturday goes around Quepem, Sanguem, Curchorem and Dharbondara villages on Sunday.
Organised by Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balaram Shikhan Sanstha, Amone – Poinguinim, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Tribal Directorate Government of India and Tribal Research Centrem Goa, the Tribal Pride Day and Tribal Folk Dance Festival were inaugurated and the Rally was later flagged-off by Goa Speaker/Tribal Leader Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai, MLA(Sanvordem) Ganesh Gaonkar, Ex-MLA/BJP General Secretary Damodar Naik and others.
Speaking on the occasion , Tawadkar said, ‘The sacrifices and lives of many of the freedom fighters, kept unknown and invisible since independence are now made known and brought to the knowledge of present day generation due to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tribal community leader Birsa Munda is one amongst the many. It is not for anything that Birsa Munda is God of tribal society. He is for the fights he had for the rights of t ribal community and their land ownership. Birsa Munda got such success in 25 years of life. That is why in the coming days, a grand memorial of Bhagwan Birsa Munda will be built, along with that of late Dilip Velip and Mangesh Gaonkar, the tribal youths who were killed in UTAA’s Balli agitation. I am trying my best to make a proper description of Mangesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip’s sacrifice for the Tribal Commuity/Society.
In his address, Social Welfare Minister Phaldessai said, “The festival is celebrated across the country for exploitation and oppression against the disgraced society. Speaker Ramnesh Tawadkar is working day and night to for building the bright future to this society. Because of Tawadkar efforts, ST community can take benefits of 24 different government schemes to the tribal community and improve their living, lifestyle, food, clothing, relief. My prayer is, May the blessings of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, inspire the people of the society to move forward.”
MLA Ganesh Gaonkar said, “It is not in human hands to be born in certain caste and religion, but it is the destiny decided and gifted by God Almighty”.

Sunday, the second day of the “Tribal Pride Day” Yatra organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, Tribal Research Centre, Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balram Edu7cation Society was launched at BKP Goa.
Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, leader of tribal community and coordinator of Yatra, Ramesh Tawadkar, Minister of Social Welfare Subhash Phaldesai, Vice President of South Goa Zilla Panchayat Kushali Velip, President of Adivasi Morcha Prabhakar Gaonkar, Member of Zilla Panchayat as special guest.Suresh Kepekar, Sarpanch of Malkarne Panchayat Rajesh Gaonkar, Sarpanch of Netravali Bundo Warak, Sarpanch of Rivon Panchayat Vaishali Naik, Vidhi Velip of Sarpanch of Kavre Panchayat, Sarpanch of Kurti-Wade Prajyot Gaoonkar, Sarpanch of Uguem Bharti Naik, Sarpanch of Bhati Chandrakant Gaonkar, Chairperson of Sanguem Municipality Preeti Naik, Alka Subhash Phaldesai and villagers were present in large numbers.
Tawadkar informed , “The concept of this Yatra was realized by the youth of Sanguem Constituency. Water, land and forest are our partners, we worship them. BJP government has a big hand to do justice to the society. Spontaneous 20 in every constituency. No one can stop the electorate from being development oriented if the percent come together.
Later in the day, the “Tribal Pride Day” Yatra reached Kaley.
Sanguem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar was present at that time. Along with South Goa Zilla Panchayat President Suvarna Tendulkar, Suresh Kepekar, Sanvordem Panchayat Sarpanch Chinmayi Naik, Kale Sarpanch Narendra alias Baban Gaonkar, Kule Sarpanch Govind Shigaonkar, Molem Sarpanch Vaman Gaonkar, Dabal Panchayat Sarpanch Damodar Bandekar, dy.Sarpanch, Panch along with a large number of villagers were present.
MLA Ganesh Gonkar said, “In just 25 years, a young man who sacrificed his life for our society without caring about his life…his legacy should be remembered in our society.”
On way, the “Tribal Pride Day” Yatra was welcomed and made grand halts at Kurpem- Sanguem, at Vechundrem, Neturlim, Sanguem, at Kurdi Vaddem- Sanguem, at Kaneri Siddha- Bhatti, Sanguem, at Uguem, Sanguem, at Kaware Pirla Quepem, at Tisk Savordem, at Matoji- Kulem, at Kulem Bazar, at Mollem, at Talsay, Dharbandora, at Sancorda- Dharbandoda,
