MOLLEM: Two individuals were arrested by Forest officials for illegally cutting and smuggling teak wood logs in Mollem. The arrested men, Raghu Naik (26) from Cuncoliem and Dilip Talwar (42) from Kirlapal, were apprehended by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Anil Fernandes and his team after a covert operation.
The incident involved the felling of two large teak trees, which were cut into 13 logs. According to the Forest Department, Umesh, a resident of Valandav, Dharbandora, had given permission to fell the trees on his property for a sum of Rs 25,000.
Acting on intelligence, the Forest Department monitored the area and took Raghu and Dilip into custody when they arrived at the site.
Forest officials confirmed that Umesh will be arrested tomorrow, and legal proceedings will follow in accordance with forest protection laws.
