PANAJI/BICHOLIM: Police have registered two separate gambling cases after apprehending two persons allegedly accepting matka bets from members of the public in Panaji and Bicholim.
In the first case, Panaji Police registered an offence on June 17, 2026, based on a state complaint lodged by HC Gurudas Ghadi. Police said that at around 5.30 pm near Taleigao Market, Tiswadi, accused Mohammad Sharif R. Bepari, 46, a resident of Camrabhat near Raikar Hospital, was caught red-handed allegedly accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers as a game of chance in a public place.
Police seized cash amounting to ₹1,120 in different denominations along with gambling-related articles from his possession. Further investigation is being conducted by HC Gurudas Ghadi of Panaji Police Station.
In the second case, Bicholim Police registered an offence on June 17, 2026, following a state complaint lodged by ASI Ramdas M. Tari. According to police, at around 4.20 pm near the toilet block at the Fish Market in Bicholim, accused Pradeep Madhu Naik, 53, a resident of Kelbaiwada, Mayem, was caught allegedly accepting bets on numerical figures from members of the public.
Police seized ₹1,060 in cash along with other gambling articles from his possession. Further investigation is being carried out by ASI Ramdas Tari of Bicholim Police Station.
Both accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Goa Public Gambling Act.
