PANAJI: Vinod Vasant Kerkar, 62, of Acoi Mapusa, and Dnyaneshwar alias Gangadhar Kerkar, 50, were found guilty of murder by the Principal District and Sessions Court in Panaji.
On December 23, 2019, Geeta Vasant Kerkar filed a complaint alleging that her brother Vilas Vasant Kerkar, 32, was attacked by the two with the shared goal of killing him and seriously injuring him with a wooden club and PVC pipe.
Geeta was hurt when the accused pushed her to the ground with force when she tried to step in.
After a thorough investigation, the case—which was presented by Police Inspector Tushar Lotliker—uncovered the siblings’ history of regular fights. It was revealed that four months prior to the tragic event, Vilas had reported his brothers to the police for frequently getting into fights while intoxicated.
The accused were found guilty by the court in a verdict that was delivered on Friday. The first offender was convicted of murder and given a life sentence; the second offender was convicted of culpable homicide under Section 304 (ii) of the IPC and served part of his sentence already.
