MARGAO: Colva police have arrested two men for allegedly slaughtering a bull unlawfully at Per-Seraulim in Salcete.
According to police sources, the action followed specific information received by a patrol team regarding suspected illegal animal slaughter activity near a cowshed in the area. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police personnel visited the location and reportedly found two individuals engaged in the act.
The accused have been identified as 35-year-old Dadapeer K. Kalaigar, currently residing at Succorbhat in Salcete and originally from Karnataka, and 20-year-old Mahmad Ummar Tarin, a resident of Ponda who also hails from Karnataka.
Both suspects were taken into custody at the site. Police subsequently carried out a spot inspection and attachment panchanama in the presence of independent witnesses. Veterinary officials were also called to examine the animal carcass and assist in the investigation.
Following the incident, Colva police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 8 of the Goa Animal Preservation Act, 1995.
Police said further inquiries are underway to ascertain all aspects of the case.
The operation was executed by officers and personnel of Colva Police Station under the supervision of senior police officials from Salcete subdivision and South Goa district police.
