PANAJI: Umar Shaikh and Niharika Parwar are on course for a remarkable triple crown as the finalists were confirmed in the State Sub Junior Under 15 and Under 17 Badminton Ranking Tournament at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim. Organised by Salcete Badminton Club under the aegis of the Goa Badminton Association, the tournament has produced several standout performances ahead of the title clashes.
Umar Shaikh continued his impressive run by securing a place in the Under 15 Boys Singles final after defeating Vishwa Parab in the semi finals. He also advanced to the Under 17 Boys Singles final and booked his spot in the Under 15 Mixed Doubles final alongside Niharika Parwar, keeping his hopes of winning three titles alive.
Niharika Parwar matched Umar’s achievement by reaching the finals of the Under 15 Girls Singles, Under 17 Girls Singles and the Under 15 Mixed Doubles event. Meanwhile, Pragya Audi also enjoyed an excellent outing, qualifying for the Under 15 Girls Singles final as well as the Under 17 Girls Doubles final.
The remaining finals promise exciting contests across all categories. Michael Mare will face Umar Shaikh in the Under 15 Boys Singles final, while Sudhanva Udupa will take on Umar in the Under 17 Boys Singles title clash. Dimple Revankar earned a place in the Under 17 Girls Singles final and remains in contention for another title in the Under 17 Mixed Doubles event.
In the doubles competitions, Samarth Sakhalkar and Vishwa Parab will meet Aaryan Karpe and Ryllan D’Souza in the Under 15 Boys Doubles final. Avni Khyalia and Palak Ramnathkar will face Ashbah Tahasildar and Komal Kothari in the Under 15 Girls Doubles final, while Ateendra Gaonkar and Palak Ramnathkar will challenge Umar Shaikh and Niharika Parwar in the Under 15 Mixed Doubles.
The Under 17 doubles finals will feature Arnav Saraf and Shane D’Souza against Karthikeyan N and Linesh Virnodkar in the boys event, while Isha Borkar and Jewel Abranches will take on Pragya Audi and Saanvi Audi in the girls category. The Under 17 Mixed Doubles final will see Sparsh Kolwalkar and Sambhavi Bhardwaj face Arnav Saraf and Dimple Revankar.
