MAPUSA: A decomposed body was discovered on Tuesday beneath the Karaswada flyover in Mapusa, triggering a police probe into the circumstances surrounding the death. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, but preliminary assumptions suggest the individual may have been a homeless person living in the vicinity.
The discovery was made by locals who noticed the body and promptly alerted the authorities. Officers from the Mapusa police station rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and began their investigation.
Police officials stated that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, indicating that it may have been there for several days. Efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the deceased and determine the cause of death through a post-mortem examination.
“We suspect the person may have been a destitute individual seeking shelter under the flyover. Exact details will be available once the autopsy is completed,” said a local resident.
The incident has raised concerns over the plight of the homeless population in Mapusa, particularly their access to shelter and healthcare. Further investigations are in progress.
