CANACONA – Agonda Sarpanch accused unknown unscrupulous elements of creating garbage nuisance by dumping and burning Garbage outside the Panchayat Garbage Shed in the village.
According to Sarpanch Badal Naikgaunkar, when panchayat engaged men had gone to deposit the garbage at the panchayat’s Garbage site situated on the isolated location near Tourem-moll, fire-lit and burning dump garbage was noticed outside the Panchayat Garbage Shed.
According to sources, the garbage was seen burning, creating a fire inferno in the locality, with the Garbage Shed constructed by Panchayat close by. As the fire threatened the safety of the Garbage Shed constructed by Panchayat, the fire was finally brought under control by dousing the fire-lit garbage.
Naikgaunkar warned strict action against the unscrupulous elements for risking the safety of the newly built Garbage Shed, where a bailing machine is also being used to treat the plastic Waste.
Naikgaunkar further informed a considerable amount of treated, as well as untreated Plastics, are lying inside the garbage shed, as there is some delay in transportation of the treated wastes.
Agonda Panchayat constructed the Shed somewhere in December last under the 14, the Finance Commission Grants @, cost of Rs.24 Lakhs, and operations of the same had begun since February this year.
Goa Waste Management Corporation has provided a Bailing Machine, Incinerator, besides other machinery to segregate and treat the dry waste and has also provided a Rickshaw to the panchayat to collect the garbage. GWMC is taking away the treated garbage.
As there was no collection for the last few months, a lot of treated garbage is lying inside the shed while fresh garbage collection has to be dumped just outside the shed.
‘We in Agonda have a door-to-door collection on regular basis, but still, some people are trying to make a mess of garbage in the village. We cannot understand why and who had dumped the garbage outside and closeby to the Shed and put it on fire. We warn such elements of strict action, and panchayat will not hesitate to hand over these unscrupulous elements to the police to initiate criminal action, warned Naikgaunkar.
