Digital Goa, April 20 – Goa heaved a huge sigh of relief from the sweltering heat as the unseasonal rain lashed most parts of the state.
Heavy rain reported this morning accompanied by thunderstorm and lightening across the state providing much needed relief from the unusual hot and humid climate the state was reeling under for last few days.
The smart city works in Panaji were affected by the heavy downpour. Several roads in the state reported flooding due to this rain. The climate in the state was overcast since morning due to the presence of large clouds over Goa.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to affect many places in Goa during next 3-4 hours, IMD warned this morning.
“At 10.25 hrs, clouds are present over the talukas of Pernem, Bicholim, Sattari, Dharbandora, Sanguem, Ponda, Tiswadi, Mormugao and Salcete.
More talukas are likely to get affected since the clouds are generally moving towards Westwards direction,” said IMD nowcast.
Several parts of the city including the Panaji bus stand have been waterlogged. Traffic jam was also witnessed in the capital.
Concerns regarding possible interruptions and safety dangers have increased as reports indicate that, in addition to the rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are predicted to prevail in both North and South Goa for the next three to four hours.
The effects of the rain are already being felt in the Smart City Panaji, as the roadways are starting to become clogged.
There have been cases of roads sinking in some regions, especially those that are still under construction, which raises questions about the stability of the infrastructure.
In light of the alert, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period to ensure their safety. A massive raincloud has been spotted hovering over Goa, as well as parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka, indicating widespread rainfall in the region.
