PONDA: Realising that their barren land would not bear fruits or crops, the family of Dr Raju Prabu and Ashok Prabu at Usgao decided to produce 6 Megawatt Solar panel energy at their 25 acre barren and rocky land located at Marwa Sada Usgao and this regard they also sent their proposal to the government and also obtained many of the necessary permission for the project.
Goa has the gift of an abundance of natural energy from the Sun, and instead of wasting it, its best use can be made in generating solar panel energy. Their effort could encourage others in Goa to switch toward solar production in the State Goa, which depends on other states for power.
The Prabu family members said they realised that crop cultivation is impossible in their vast land, and therefore instead giving their land for any pollution oriented project or laterite stone mine, they decided to use their land for the production of solar panel energy, which will also help them to meet the future requirement.
The family has obtained the prior permission of the Goa Energy Development Agency. The proposal has been put forward Under Prime Minister Kisan Urja Scheme, and most of the consent has been obtained.
After the project’s construction, it would annually be expected to generate 8760 Megawatt, i.e. around 96 lakh units of electricity. Goa Electricity Department would be able to get its additional power supply from the project. Currently, Goa state depends on Karnataka and other States for its power requirement.
The barren land at Marwa Sada Usgao is uneven and rocky, and to make it suitable and level for installing solar panels, the family has obtained permission from the Mines department and also obtained environment clearance.
