CANACONA- Several Vithal Bhakts from Canacona have begun a historic on-foot pilgrimage to Pandharpur on Sunday.
Canacona MLA andSpeaker Ramesh Tawadkar flagged –off the Vari (procession) by showing the Saffron flag at Shri Bhumipurush Devalaya, Palolem, in the presence of Canacona Ex-MLA Vijay Poi Khot and others.
This is the first time ever that an exclusive group of Vithal Bhakts recently formed under the name and style of Shri Vitthal Rakhumai Mauli Varkari Mandal this Vari (on-foot pilgrimage) for the benefit of Varkaris from Canacona.
These Varkaris (participants in the walking pilgrimage)/Pilgrims from Canacona are going to walk 416 kilometres to Pandharpur and will reach on July 29, covering about 20 km on an average per day and reaching the distance in 19 days.
On the way, while walking on foot, some religious and cultural programs such as Namsmaran, Dindi, Bhajan, Haripath, Aartya, Pasaidan etc., will be conducted during this Vari before the Vari concludes on June 29 with a religious ceremony at Pandharpur.
Shri Vitthal Rakhumai Varkari Mandal members Suraj Naikgaunkar, Nandeep Bhagat, Dr Vikram Prabhu, Dharmendra Pagi, Nilesh Gosavi, Dilkush Velip, Nitesh Gosavi, Ramesh Vaddar and others were present and part of the Varkaris.
Incidentally, previously, Varkari’s from Canacona used to join other 7-8 other Varkari groups from North Goa, whereas during the last year the first Vari was started from Quepem in South Goa, and about 40 Varkari from Canacona, including aged women have joined them in large numbers completing it in 14-15 days.
