VASCO: The Vasco Block Congress Committee organised an Organ Donation Awareness and Registration Drive in Vasco on Wednesday to promote awareness about organ donation and encourage citizens to voluntarily pledge their organs.
The initiative was held under the leadership of Vasco Block Congress leader Nandadeep Raut and witnessed the participation of local residents, who attended the programme to understand the importance of organ donation and the registration process.
Addressing the gathering, Raut described organ donation as one of the noblest humanitarian acts, saying that a single donor has the potential to save multiple lives. He noted that thousands of patients across the country are awaiting life-saving organ transplants and stressed the need for greater public participation to bridge the gap between demand and availability.
He also appealed to the youth to come forward and register as organ donors, adding that awareness and informed decision-making are key to dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
During the programme, experts and volunteers explained the organ donation process, eligibility criteria and the legal framework governing organ donation. Participants were also encouraged to discuss their decision with family members to ensure their wishes are respected.
The organisers addressed common misconceptions associated with organ donation and assisted willing participants with donor registration formalities. Several residents enrolled as organ donors and expressed support for the initiative.
The Vasco Block Congress Committee said the drive aimed to foster a culture of voluntary organ donation and inspire more people to contribute to the humanitarian cause, offering hope to patients awaiting life-saving transplants.
